Meet our Expert Panel:

Monique Curry - Mims, MBA, MSED, Director of Development, Steppingstone Scholars, Inc.

Monique Curry​ has over 13 years of development and leadership experience in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. She is a development, marketing and strategic planning professional with experience in event planning, grant writing and fundraising. As a Penn State MBA graduate who holds a BS in Digital Design from Philadelphia University and a MSEd from Walden University, Monique has an ​innovative approach to developing education and nonprofit organizations.  Currently, Monique​ is the Director of Development of Steppingstone Scholars, an educational nonprofit whose goal is to get underserved and minority students to and through college successfully starting in Kindergarten grade.As Director of Development, Monique oversees all development and communication activities across the organization including strategy, implementation, grant writing, fundraising, ​cultivation of individual and foundation donors and events to support Steppingstone’s $2 million annual budget - reporting directly to the President, and working closely with Steppingstone’s Board of Directors. With a fundraising event goal of $420,000 in 2017, through strategic planning and outreach, she ​was able to successfully exceed the goal by 21% while reducing expenses by 35%, which increased net revenue by 44%.

Denise Sullivan, Senior Director of Development & Marketing, Flyers Charities

Denise is currently the Senior Director of Development and Marketing for Flyers Charities, the non-profit arm of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, where she is responsible for leading the fundraising, development and marketing efforts for the charity.  Building valuable partnerships that increase the organization’s revenue, visibility and impact throughout the community is at the core of her role in the Philadelphia Flyers organization.

Denise has more than 15 years of professional experience in the corporate, non-profit, sports and entertainment industries, including the Philadelphia 76ers, The Franklin Institute and Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.  A 2001 graduate of Penn State with a degree in Communications and Media Studies, Denise continued her education through certificate programs at Temple University and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, focusing on both executive event leadership and fundraising principals, respectively. Denise is also a stylist for Stella & Dot, a lifestyle and accessories company created to help women be their own boss, on their own terms (

Volunteering for mission-based organizations is where Denise feels she can make the most positive impact in the community. She is a board member for Music4More (, a non-profit that collects instrument donations and recycles them into struggling school programs and music therapy programs for veterans, and Today Is a Good Day, (, a foundation started by dear friends (and Penn Staters) to support families going through the NICU journey.  Denise also stays active with the local Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, and is the External Relations Lead for the first ever Comcast Spectacor Women’s Network. 

A networker and connector at heart, she loves inspiring others and most importantly, she believes in the power of #dreamingherdream!  She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA.

Fred Stein, Senior Partner, The Creative Group, Inc

Fred is senior partner in The Creative Group, Inc., established in Pennsylvania as a special events production and meeting planning firm. Dedicated to the creation, production, implementation and promotion of programs throughout the world, the company has successfully staged over 3,400 major special events and meetings in numerous cities throughout the United States and indeed around the world.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Fred was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and Temple University with a B.S. in Communications in 1972. As journalism major he was a reporter for the Temple News and subsequent to graduation was named general assignment reporter and ultimately editor for a chain of community newspapers in Northwest Philadelphia. He was named to a legislative assistant post in Philadelphia City Council in 1976 and appointed assistant managing director of the City of Philadelphia in 1981 to plan and implement the 300th anniversary of the City. In 1983 he became Chief of Staff in U.S. Congress where he managed three offices in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. prior to starting his own business to produce special events beginning with the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.

During his career in journalism and public service, Mr. Stein received numerous awards including Best News Story of 1974 from the Delta Sigma Chi journalism society and Best Editorial in 1975 from the Keystone Press Awards. He has been given twelve community service awards for his work in city and federal government. Over the course of his professional career he has been on various civic and charitable boards and committees and provides pro bono work as event producer for the Race for the Cure (27 years), Project H.O.M.E. (14 years), Legacy/Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center (14 years), Camden Cathedral Kitchen . . . to name a few.

Fred serves on the board of directors of Settlement Music School and Philadelphia Police Foundation, and emeritus on Komen Foundation.

Fred started the event management program at Temple University in the Fox School of Business School of Hospitality Management where he taught the graduate course for seven years, since he founded it. In 2010 he brought his expertise to Drexel University where he initiated the event management track at Goodwin College for hospitality management.

Chris Callanan is the Director of Events and Corporate Development at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH). PRMH supports families of seriously ill children by creating a community of comfort and hope. Chris started volunteering at the house as a van driver before becoming a full-time staff member in August 2010. Chris is currently responsible for fundraising, event management, corporate giving, and strategic partnerships. Chris works closely with companies from across the Delaware Valley to determine which volunteer opportunities, events, or funding options might be the best fit for that particular organization. With a diverse portfolio of events, PRMH continues to offer something for everyone. These wonderful partnership opportunities include the Guest Chef program, Adopt-A-Room, Plane Pull, Hit ‘em for the House, Philalympics, Show Your Stripes, Champions of Hope, and much more.

Since graduating from Saint Joseph’s University in 2006, Chris continues to focus on his main passion which is oncology camping. Oncology camps help provide a fun, positive summer experience for children living with cancer and their siblings. Chris has volunteered at Camp No Worries in Southern NJ, Barrestown A Hole in the Wall Game Camp in Ireland, and Ronald McDonald Camp in the Poconos. He has held various positions that range from cabin counselor to camp director but his all-time favorite thing is leading campers in a rendition of “Hey Burrito” his favorite camp song. When Chris isn’t hanging out with Dr. Audrey Evans (the co-founder of PRMH pictured above) or saving the world, he can be found on his couch with Sir Charles Barkley (his 11 year old pug).
